Kampala – Uganda
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Justice Simon Byabakama, has issued a stern warning to National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi, commonly known as Bobi Wine, over alleged violations of electoral laws during ongoing campaign activities.

According to the Electoral Commission, a report submitted by the Uganda Police Force details at least 62 alleged electoral offences linked to Kyagulanyi’s campaign operations. The reported violations reportedly include unlawful processions, disruption of public order, and failure to adhere to campaign guidelines set by the Electoral Commission.

Justice Byabakama cautioned that while the Commission has so far exercised restraint, continued disregard for electoral regulations could compel the Electoral Commission to invoke legal measures as provided for under the law.
“The Electoral Commission will not hesitate to take decisive action against any candidate or political actor who persistently violates campaign rules,” Byabakama said, emphasizing that the law applies equally to all participants in the electoral process.

Meanwhile, supporters of Bobi Wine have dismissed the accusations as politically motivated, arguing that opposition candidates are unfairly targeted. They have called on the Electoral Commission to ensure impartiality and protect democratic freedoms.
The Electoral Commission has reiterated its call for all candidates to conduct their campaigns peacefully and within the confines of the law to safeguard a free and fair electoral process.
