Rescue operations on an evening rush‐hour led by the Uganda Police Service are ongoing following the crush and explosion of a fuel track on the Kampala-Bombo highway.

The incident happened on the evening of Tuesday 22nd October, 2024 at around 3:20 pm when the petroleum fuel tanker overturned and caught fire in Kigogwa Town, along the Kampala-Bombo road in Kasangati, Wakiso District.

According to Kampala Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the incident has resulted in multiple casualties, with several people feared dead and others injured.

The exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed, but emergency response teams were quickly dispatched to the scene.

Onyango says a multi-agency effort is currently underway, with teams working tirelessly to manage the situation.

The response includes fire brigade trucks, four 999 patrol cars, police ambulances, Red Cross ambulances, and assistance from sister security forces.
