THE UGANDA ELECTORAL COMMISSION NOMINATES 8 CANDIDATES VYING FOR PRESIDENTIAL SEAT OUT OF THE 206, THAT HAD EXPRESSED INTEREST.

The Electoral Commission concluded its two-day nomination exercise for the 2026 presidential elections, clearing eight candidates to contest for the top seat. The nominees include:

  • Yoweri Museveni Kaguta Tibuhaburwa, National Resistance Movement (NRM), who seeks to accelerate Uganda’s economic growth and social transformation, highlighting the country’s GDP growth from $34 billion to $66 billion under his leadership.
  • Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), National Unity Platform (NUP), who launched a “protest vote” campaign aimed at ending decades of what he called oppression and misrule.
  • Nathan Nandala Mafabi James, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), with a campaign slogan “Fixing the economy, money in our pockets”.
  • Mugisha Muntu Girigor, Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), who seeks to challenge Museveni, having previously run for the presidency.
  • Mubarak Munyagwa Sserunga, Common Man’s Party, who proposes swapping Swahili for French and deporting illegal foreigners.
  • Elton Joseph Mabirizi, Conservative Party, focusing on conservative values and addressing economic challenges.
  • Robert Kasibante, National Peasants Party, prioritizing land reforms and reducing social inequalities.
  • Frank Bulira Kabinga, Revolutionary People’s Party.

The official campaigns will kick off on September 29, 2025, with candidates expected to unveil their manifestos and engage in peaceful campaigns. The Electoral Commission has urged candidates to avoid violence and maintain the country’s peace.
