🚨 The People’s Front for Freedom (PPF) has intensified its criticism of the prosecution in the ongoing trial of opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale, with the party’s Deputy Head of the Political Affairs Commission in the Office of the Secretary General, Harold Kaija, alleging serious procedural flaws and questioning the credibility of the State’s principal witness.
In a strongly worded statement shared on his socials , Kaija claimed that the prosecution’s key witness, identified as “Orlando,” admitted in a police statement recorded at CID Headquarters in Kibuli on March 24, 2025, that he had deleted the original audio and video recordings before submitting copied versions to investigators.
According to Kaija, the destruction of the original files raises serious concerns about the authenticity and integrity of the evidence presented in court. He argued that the original recordings are essential for forensic examination to determine whether they were altered, edited, or manipulated.
Kaija further alleged that the witness acted under the direction of military intelligence and played an active role in the events that later formed the basis of the prosecution’s case. He claimed the witness facilitated meetings, arranged travel, provided financial support, secretly recorded conversations, and later deleted the original recordings.
The PPF official also criticized the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Dr. Besigye and Hajji Lutale, alleging they were transferred from Nairobi to Uganda without undergoing a formal extradition process. He further claimed that the two have since faced several restrictions, including the denial of bail, limited access to family members, and challenges in securing legal representation of their choice.
Kaija argued that these developments reflect what he described as a broader pattern of political persecution targeting government critics and opposition figures.
The prosecution has not publicly responded to Kaija’s latest allegations, and court proceedings against Dr. Besigye and Hajji Lutale remain ongoing.
As the trial continues, the PPF’s claims are expected to intensify public debate over the fairness of the proceedings, the handling of evidence by State agencies, and the credibility of the prosecution’s case.
